Poker Thoughts

An Ace Without A Face is A Trap Hand in No-Limit Holdem!

I don’t understand why so many players play any hand with a ace. Some People just love aces and no matter what card comes with it they play it. I learned along time ago that an Ace with out a face is garbage in a No-Limit Tournaments and even in NL ring games. Most of the time they will just cost you a lot of chips. I really don’t even like to play Ace Jack in NL games unless its suited.

Why am I so against these starting hands you ask. Well its simple, they cost you a lot of money in the long run. Lets say you have A8 in late position and the flop comes A, 10, 3 Well you hit a good flop right? Well not really because There is a good chance that someone will have an Ace with a better kicker or even a A10 to make two pair. Then you are almost drawing dead! But most likely if the other player with the better hand makes small to mid size bets you will want to call because you “Hit” your aces. Even if none of the other player have aces they will probably fold to a bet so the hand probably wont make you much money!

I’m not saying you should never play these hands in NL tournaments, Sometimes A2 can be a raising hand in certain tournament situations. But in the early stages I wouldn’t play A9 or lower. Even A10 should be folded depending on position and other factors.

To put it simply Ace-Low card to Ace-Mid card are trap hands in NL games!
